Jeans and a nice top is the outfit most of us wear more than any other, and the top is the part that decides whether it looks like an afterthought or like you meant it.
The Emma Amelia blouse is our answer to that. It's a floral blouse cut from Liberty Fabrics' Emma Amelia print, drawn from the 1930s pattern archives, where foxgloves, primroses, daisies and bluebells sit together in soft, light tones. Because the palette is gentle rather than loud, it does something quietly useful: it goes with denim in every wash you already own.
Why light tones work so well with denim
Denim is really a neutral, a blue that goes with almost everything, so a light, softly coloured floral doesn't compete with it. The two balance each other. Denim gives the print somewhere to rest, and the print lifts your jeans out of "everyday" and into "put-together." Here's how that plays out across the washes most of us are wearing.
With light wash jeans: soft and tonal
This is the easiest pairing, and the one you'll see in our product photos. Light wash jeans and a light floral sit close together in tone, so the whole outfit reads soft and airy, which is exactly what you want on a warm spring day. Half-tuck the blouse at the front, add flat sandals, and you're done.
With mid-blue and dark indigo: a little contrast
Darker denim makes the light tones in the print stand out. The blouse becomes the focus and the jeans quietly ground it. A straight-leg indigo jean, the blouse tucked in, a slim belt and leather flats is the version we'd wear to a long lunch or the school pick-up.
With white denim: fresh and bright
White jeans and a light floral are a summer classic for a reason. The outfit stays clean and bright, and the flowers are the only colour in it. It suits the long, hot days we get out here in Western Queensland, when the heat is already sitting over the red dirt by mid-morning, and Tana Lawn is light and breathable enough to keep up.
With black denim: crisp and evening-ready
Black jeans give the light florals the most contrast of all, which makes the blouse feel dressier without changing a thing about it. Add gold jewellery and heeled sandals or ankle boots and it's ready for dinner.
Under a denim jacket: for cooler mornings
Once the mornings turn cool, layer a denim jacket over the top. Because this is a 3/4 sleeve blouse, the sleeves tuck neatly under the jacket without bunching at the wrist, and the mandarin collar peeks out just enough.
What makes it a nice top to wear with jeans
A few details do the work. The mandarin collar keeps the neckline neat and simple. The 3/4 sleeves are a good in-between length for most of the year. The relaxed fit works tucked, half-tucked or worn out over your jeans. And because it's 100% Tana Lawn cotton, Liberty Fabrics' signature fabric, it's lightweight, breathable and needs no ironing.

Emma Amelia is cut in sizes 8 to 22 and is true to size. Our model wears a size 8.
